Deck Licensed Contractor – 6 Ways to get your deck ready for Spring

Deck Licensed Contractor – March 11, 2022 – After a long winter, things are warming up here in Pasadena. Spring is around the corner and it’s the ideal time to make sure your deck is ready for the summer. Handyman Connection urges customers not to wait until the day before their first barbecue to inspect the deck. Do yourself a favor and get your deck ready so that all you have to worry about on that first perfect barbecue day is what you’re going to cook. And, if you don’t have the time or inclination, you can schedule a deck licensed contractor with a licensed handyman from Handyman Connection in Pasadena.

  1. Clean your deck

Take a putty knife and clean in between the deck boards. Be sure to check the areas where the boards cross the joists underneath the decking. Use a piece of PVC pipe if you need to reach difficult spots. Sweep your deck to remove any debris or leaves that may have accumulated. Use a leaf blower if you have one as they make the process a lot less hard work. Don’t forget to cover any plants with plastic sheeting so they don’t get covered in dust.

  • Wash your deck

Once you have cleared all the debris from the deck you should give it a power-wash to remove any build-up of mold and dirt. Mold and mildew is a recipe for rot. Use a standard deck cleaner and follow the instructions. Some require the deck to be wet and others don’t. It’s best to wash your deck on a cloudy day so the cleaner doesn’t dry too quickly in the sun.

  • Repair your deck

Now that your deck is clean you will know if there are any spots that need treating for rot and whether all joins and handrails still secure. Do any necessary repairs, the last thing you want is for your summer fun to be ruined by one of the boards or a handrail breaking.

  • Clean your deck furniture

Get out your deck furniture and clean it with warm soapy water. Wash your any cushions you have or even recover them for a fresh new look.

  • Spruce up your deck

Spring is also the perfect time to give your deck a new look and feel. In addition to investing in some new furnishings you could consider putting up a screen or adding a roof, putting up a hammock, painting the deck a new color, or remodeling it completely. Whatever ideas you have Handyman Connections can make them a reality.

  • Add a pop of color

Treat yourself to some fresh décor in trendy summer colors. It’s amazing what a change a couple of colorful scatter cushions and planter pots can make. You can add even more color by planting flowers around your deck or placing them in hanging baskets.

  • Get your barbecue steak-ready

Clean the woodpile and stock up on wood. Clean the grill and all barbecue accessories so you’re ready to pop those steaks, hot dogs, and burgers onto the grill as soon as the opportunity presents itself.
